This prestigious passage is one of the most stunning places in the town. Artists as varied as Jacques Demy, Tardy and André Pieyre de Mandiargues have all honoured it in their work. Its main feature is a large central wooden staircase with three cast-iron landings, lit up by an enormous window. The lights are held by naked cherubs or attached to threatening satanic looking wrought-iron gargoyles: a weird mix which must have been well received by the Surrealists. Built under Louis-Philippe, this passage has always been a commercial hot-spot and is home to a good number of shops.
