A park in the heart of the Latin Quarter

Maria de Medici oversaw the making of the Luxembourg Garden in the 17th century and additional work was done in the 18th century by architect Jean-François Chalgrin.
This 25 hectare French garden is decorated with vistas, flowerbeds and box-trimmed trees, and paths radiate outward from the Park's central fish-filled basin. Everyone is sure to find a slice of happiness here.
Strollers will pass kiosks, aviaries and orchards. Athletes can come run here on the peripheral trail or play on any one of six tennis courts. Children can play with the small sailboats installed in the central pool, take a pony ride or see a marionnette show. For grownups there's lawnbowling and chess. And the Medici fountain is a great place to sit beside and steal a kiss.
Terraces overlook the park, which is dotted with sculptures and memorials, including statues of French queens and princesses (chosen by King Louis Phillippe). The tranquility of the park is undisturbed by the presence of the Senate built off to one side and the even the Senate Garden feels far removed from the debates happening inside. Large-format photographic installations are often on exhibit around the park's periphery day and night and free to the public.
